Considerations For A New V Rod Body Kit

By Anthony Stevens

There are many reasons why one would want to change the body of their motorcycle including dents, scratches, or even wanting a different frame from the standard one that it came in. In such cases, one would have to purchase and install a new v Rod Body Kit especially if the changes they want are on the entire frame. Sometimes one does not need the whole frame but because they are not able to find a particular part then they have no choice but to change it entirely.

Insurance companies do not like it when a person tinkers with the bike, especially if the modifications deal with performance or how the motorcycle handles. Changing the frame of the bike has little to do with the performance and more with the aesthetic value. That is not to say that the insurance company will not have an issue with it.

For some people, as long as the parts function properly that is all that matters. However, that is not the case with the majority of the bikers who are very much into the aesthetics of their bikes. They like it when their bikes are alluring and if they cannot find a part that matches the rest of the bike, then they will replace the entire frame.

Many companies are likely to approve the installation of a body kit but not with a few issues especially if the kit is very different from the standard form. A frame is much more appealing aesthetically and is likely to get denied or increase your premium. This is because of a bike with an alluring frame is more likely to get stolen and is prone to damages.

As much as it is easy to purchase whatever kind of frame one would want for the bike, it is not that straight forward when it comes to warranty and insurance. It is best to wait out the warranty period before installing a new body kit. Installing it before the warranty expires result in the cancellation of the warranty meaning that should anything happen before the expiration, you will have to bear the burden of the cost.

The next thing to consider is insurance of the bike. Before installing a new body, you need to talk to your insurance company and find out if the modification is considered standard. Standard modification is considered to be one that basically retains or returns the bike into its original form. You will also need to give details of the type of kit that you are installing and the cost.

When the insurance company notices the modifications made, they are likely to nullify the claim and pull out altogether leaving you without a cover. It will further make the situation more difficult for you when you try to get another company to insure your bike. Other insurance companies are likely to decline as they would not want to be put in the same situation that you put your previous insurer.

If the insurance company does not agree with the type of kit you want, it is better to find one that they will approve. Going against their wishes will put you in a tricky spot when claiming as they are likely to decline due to the changes. It is therefore important to consult with your insurance company before installing any frame onto your bike to ensure that whatever changes you make are covered.
